JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Outreach, Admissions/Career Transition Services Supervisor, the Career Specialist is responsible for career transition services, including direct placement and for conducting placement follow-up, in compliance with government and management directives.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Directly place students and meet DOL and center contractual placement goals; verify and document all placement efforts according to requirements including the updating of case notes
  • Identify and develop potential jobs, schools, military or other training program placements for exiting students; conduct job development and provide direct placement for students
  • Follow up with separated students and place them within established time limits
  • Maintain program linkages with DOL, national, state, local and other governmental and social service agencies to provide placement
  • Compile data and input placement information as required by guidelines
  • Prepare placement reports and assist in the development of center’s CDSS plan
  • Coordinate transition services for exiting students; develop and maintain contacts with agencies and resources to meet student needs
  • Maintain contact with industries and businesses for the purpose of developing placement opportunities and assist in community relations activities
  • Participate in assessment panels
  • Other duties as assigned 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree OR Associate’s Degree & 2 years related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

About Us:
Hawaii Job Corps Center is operated by Management & Training Corporation (MTC) for the U.S. Department of Labor. Located in Waimanalo, Oahu & Makawa’o Maui, our campus is home to 300+ young adults, ages 16-24, who have made the decision to come to Job Corps in order to improve their lives. Every staff member is part of teaching the students the academic, technical training, employability, and social skills they need to become prepared for successful careers.

A Job Corps campus is like a mini-college. It has dormitories, classrooms, a dining hall, and recreational and medical facilities. Training is open entry, open exit and can last up to two years. Students work at their own pace, guided by academic and career training instructors who are committed to their success.

Hawaii Job Corps Center offers students training in 9 vocations: building construction technology, automotive, office administration, culinary, landscaping, painting, health occupations, medical office administration and security/protective services trade.
