Description
Position Summary:
Reports to the food service assistant and indirectly to the food service administrator. Responsible for the preparation of facility meals in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Harris County Sheriff’s Office directives.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and cook quantity of food required according to menu and number of inmates.
- Maintain kitchen equipment in orderly workable condition. Ensure work area is safe, clean and sanitary at all times.
- Maintain accountability of kitchen tools.
- Prepare foods as directed for special facility functions and visitors.
- Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas following each meal.
- Direct the work of the inmate food service workers assigned to assist in the kitchen.
- Creates and maintains a cellblock atmosphere conducive to respect of others.
- Maintains appropriate boundaries with inmates.
- Requires long periods of standing and walking to include climbing stairs and the ability to push and/or pull food carts.
- Perform 2-way voice communication and face to face observation with all inmates.
- Regular and reliable onsite attendance is required.
- It is expected the incumbent will work overtime when directed to do so
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
- Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required. A valid food handlers permit is also required, if required by the state of Texas. Food service training, one (1) year of food service or related experience and prior supervisory experience are preferred. Must possess a Jailer Certificate as determined by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Must pass both a physical and psychological assessment as determined by TCOLE. Must be at least 18 years of age. Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
