This position reports to the designated lieutenant.  Acts as lead worker for assigned correctional officers.  Responsible for the custody and discipline of detainees in the facility in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) directives.

Essential functions include:
  1. Assign work schedules, protect, instruct, train, counsel and provide feedback for evaluation of assigned employees.
  2. Responsible for the care, custody, and adherence to rules and regulations of detainees assigned to specific work area.
  3. Supervise and direct searches for contraband and provide security.
  4. Supervise and provide custody and security of detainees including observation of detainees and detainees assigned to work duty.
  5. Read, review and properly apply information found in detainees records which is related to the detainee's health and safety and to the security of the facility.  Provide appropriate information to other personnel.
  6. Supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms and reports.
  7. Perform specific duties if assigned to the following areas: unit, special management area, security threat groups, and intake.
  8. Maintain the secure custody and security of detainees including observation of detainees, which includes long periods of sitting and standing.
  9. Perform specific security functions including pat and strip searches, by squatting and bending to perform such functions.
  10. It is expected the incumbent will work overtime, when directed to do so.
  11. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.  Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  12. Maintain accountability of staff, detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year experience in an adult correctional environment or related field required.  Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
