Our Substance Abuse Instructor/Counselor position pays $21.30 an hour and we provide an amazing benefits package including:

Position Summary:
Provide academic instruction and counseling services to residents in accordance with approved curricula and in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC).

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and conduct classes and activities for residents in Cognitive Behavioral Intervention- Substance Abuse, Thinking for a Change, Aggression Replacement Training, Pre-Release, or GED prep classes. Prepare teaching plans, activities and learning experiences to increase the positive impact of courses taught. Demonstrate good knowledge of human service principles and practices to include behavioral management methods, rehabilitation and treatment programs. 
  • Utilize appropriate audio and visual teaching materials individualized to the specific need of the resident.
  • Assess resident performance and document resident progress in electronic charting program
  • Participate in staff trainings in an endeavor to develop and improve programs.
  • Adjust material and curriculum to the individual differences of the assigned. 
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques. 
  • Follow safety practices. 

 It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within their capabilities as determined by management.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in human services or criminal justice related field. May substitute Bachelor’s degree with One (1) year of professional experience as a certified Drug & Alcohol treatment professional.

To instruct as part of the GED prep program candidate must be eligible for an Idaho Standard Secondary Education Certificate, or have a Bachelor’s degree and two years’ experience teaching individuals in a group setting.

Valid driver’s license in the state of Idaho with and acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management. 

Post-Hire Qualifications and Training Requirements:

Must successfully complete a background check 

Education and Experience Requirements:
