Minimum Salary range -- $44,000 - $46,000

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Brief Job Description:  

  • Coordinate and instruct the career preparation period (CPP) program for new students during their third week in the Job Corps program. 
  • Develop, prepare, and deliver lessons in basic word processing and keyboard, resume preparation, money management, introduction to diversity, career readiness etiquette, and other CPP lessons. 
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to meet student learning needs. 
  • Provide students with employment, career training, personal, and social adjustment counseling on individual and group basis. 
  • Continuously evaluate individual student’s attitudes, participation, and commitment within career preparation program; intervene when inappropriate behaviors are observed. 
  • Maintain documentation and training records using Center Information System, as well as other systems of documentation. 
  • Assist in evaluating services for students; recommend modifications for improvement. 
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment in the classroom which models high standards for a work environment. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements.  High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science, business, or related field preferred.  Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills, computer proficiency, the ability and desire to motivate and inspire students, and valid driver’s license with an acceptable record.  Experience teaching or training others desirable.

Tongue Point Job Corps Center is operated by MTC for the U.S. Department of Labor. Located at the mouth of the Columbia River, the Center is one of the five largest employers in Clatsop County. Students apply for admission and work at their own pace, guided by academic and career training instructors who are committed to their success. Tongue Point offers students training in 12 vocations. We are the only Job Corps Center in the nation with a seamanship program; it is the Center's largest vocation.
