Essential Duties:

  • Review detailed background file, conduct personal interview and assessments as necessary to analyze and recommend a program for each assigned student.
  • Maintain individual folder on each assigned student.
  • Provide direct aid to students with personal needs or problems, sickness, injury, family problems, emergency leaves or unauthorized absence (UA) retrievals. Prepare UA reports and leave forms, verify required information in accordance with PRH and MTC requirements.
  • Provide continuous educational, CTT, personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis; recommend necessary program modifications throughout each assigned student's stay.
  • Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.
  • Conduct continuous interpretation and evaluation of progress in student's specific development program; coordinate problem cases and point out areas in which guidance and development techniques can be improved. Maintain, up to date documentation, case notes and records using CIS, as well as other systems of documentation.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  • Oversee each student's personal career development plan in center information system (CIS).
  • Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems; evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted; participate as a member of the mental health team.
  • Refer students to other program areas such as transfers, extension or advanced programs, and college placement.
  • Maintain contact with student's family and conduct home visits as necessary; utilize community resources as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with the CTT instructors and career transition readiness specialist assigned to the student caseload.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Provide staff training as scheduled; provide training and feedback to residential advisors in conducting dormitory group counseling sessions.
  • Provide transportation for student functions related to counseling (i.e. citizenship, social security office, ect.).
  • Plan, implement, and conduct group sessions to enhance student's life skills.
  • Ensure students who are in an unauthorized absence (UA) status are called and case notes entered. If local nonresidential student, a home visit should be made and case note entered.
  • Have a basic understanding of MYPACE plan as needed to provide support/guidance as appropriate.
  • Have a basic understanding of the MYPACE program and its role in a student's transition plan.
  • Review individual student's MYPACE plan as needed to provide support/guidance as appropriate.
  • Provide support as needed with goals/activities as identified on one of the four MYPACE pathway achievement records (PAR).
  • Provide support as needed with an individual student's MYPACE plan, follow through, and activities.
  • Assist with MYPACE activities/lessons as needed and appropriate.
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one-year related experience in counseling or related field required.
  • May require working one evening or on Saturday and/or Sunday.
  • Course work must include 15 credits of instruction in social services-related instruction.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency required.
