Position Description: 

The selected candidate’s essential functions will be as follows but not limited to:
Directs overall supervision of lieutenants, sergeants, correctional officers and offenders; supervises schedules, instructs, trains, and ensures the safety of assigned employees and offenders; and assists in formulation security and work procedures.  Supervises and directs searches for contraband; counts feeds, and supervises offenders in housing, work and other areas.  Participates in the interview and selection process of new employees, including making recommendations for new hires and promotions.  Provides staff training, evaluates staff performance, investigate staff misconduct and implement organizational and personnel changes.  Conduct major disciplinary hearings.

Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.  Four (4) years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience to include two (2) years in the supervision of employees.  Operational Review Sergeant or Security Threat Group Sergeant experience may be substituted for the required supervisory experience for a maximum substitution of one (1) year.  At least one (1) year of the required supervisory experience must be as a mid-level manager (supervisor of supervisors).  Thirty (30) semester hours with a minimum of six (6) semester hours in Criminal Justice from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for one (1) year of the required non-supervisory experience.  Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
