Sierra Nevada Job Corps offers young adults vocational training in a variety of trades. Located 12 miles north of Reno, Nevada, the sprawling 40-acre campus provides outstanding recreational opportunities, well-equipped learning labs and individualized, self-paced vocational and academic programs.  

Sierra Nevada Job Corps is currently looking for a Career Readiness Specialist.

Position Summary:  Reports to the manager, career counseling.  Responsible for planning, coordinating, developing and implementing a professional individuals and group counseling program for assigned students, in compliance with government and management directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Refer students to other programs areas such as transfers, extension or advanced programs, college placement, etc.
  2. Maintain contact with student’s family; utilize community resources as needed.
  3. Assist in the evaluation of center services for students and recommend modifications for improvement.

  5. Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  6. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other customers.
  7. Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  8. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  9. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  10. Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:  Bachelor's degree or four year's experience working with youth required. Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required.  Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
