Essential Duties:

  • Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and programmatic activities of the department.
  • Evaluate staff performance, provide staff training and implement department and personnel changes as approved by the deputy director and coordinated with the director, human resources prior to implementation.
  • Assist the deputy director in the preparation of the departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures.
  • Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting counseling and career preparation services; coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance with overall center directives.
  • Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.
  • Develop and implement an effective counseling service and career preparation program and ensure that each counselor is assigned a caseload consistent with guidelines; provide counseling services to a caseload of students.
  • Take appropriate steps to ensure that administration procedures are followed, such as adequate record keeping, maintenance of schedules, and provide proper follow-up with students in unauthorized status.
  • Participate in the training of all center staff as coordinated with the manager, human resources and the director.
  • Implement and maintain collaborative system of communication between counseling services and career preparation program, center staff and outside community services to facilitate student progress and performance; evaluate all center counseling components and recommend modifications.
  • Coordinate activities of the maximum benefits program including performance evaluation scheduling and monitoring.
  • Coordinate efforts to promote student retention and graduation; participate in committee to improve center outcomes.
  • Coordinate the delivery of mental health services with the health and wellness director and the center mental health consultant.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  • Have a basic understanding of the MYPACE program and its role in a student's transition plan.
  • Review individual student's MYPACE plan as needed to provide support/guidance as appropriate.
  • Provide positive, quality support services to students, staff and other center customers.
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services or related instruction.
  • Two years’ experience in counseling or related field and two years supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of human behavior, individual and group counseling techniques, management skills and case summaries.
  • Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency required.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
