What you will be doing: You’ll be responsible for ensuring quality meals are prepared for the facility.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare and cook the required quantity of food according to menu and number of inmates.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment remains in orderly and working condition.
  • Ensure the work area is safe, clean and sanitary at all times.
  • Maintain accountability of kitchen tools.
  • Prepare foods as directed for special facility functions and visitors.
  • Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas following each meal.
  • Direct the work of the inmate food service workers assigned to assist in the kitchen.
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries with inmates.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. A valid food handlers permit is also required, if required by the state of Texas. Food service training, one (1) year of food service or related experience and prior supervisory experience are preferred. Must possess a Jailer Certificate as determined by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Must pass both a physical and psychological assessment as determined by TCOLE. Must be at least 18 years of age. Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Physical requirements: Long periods of standing and walking to include climbing stairs and the ability to push and/or pull food carts.
