Do you like to be active? Would you like to make an impact in a student’s life? At Earle C Clements Job Corps, we want to keep our students active while in the program. Our recreation department organizes a variety of activities and directs our students to be involved in different ways. Planning, implementing and coordinating these activities are part of the daily functions of our program. As part of the recreation department, you become part of each student’s lives and in turn, help them to succeed.

Essential Duties:

  • Reports to the recreation manager or designated supervisor.
  • Assist with the effective operations of the student union snack bar.
  • Responsible for monitoring and directing students engaged in center-sponsored recreational activities on- and off-center in compliance with government and management directives.
  • Assist the manager, recreation in planning, implementing and coordinating a comprehensive and diversified program which will attract voluntary participation.
  • Organize and supervise student participation in a variety of recreation activities.
  • Conduct and coordinate recreation activities.
  • Chaperone students to center recreation functions.
  • Assist with monitoring of the student store.
  • Operate and maintain DVD/video projection system and related equipment.
  • Conduct activities for career preparation students that enhance student retention.
  • Conduct activities with other departments on center to offer a variety of activities that meet the needs of all students.
  • Conduct and monitor the center's "ROPES" program.
  • Conduct PE classes.
  • Assist in the evaluation of DVD/video offerings through student input and personal evaluation and make recommendations as necessary.
  • Provide food for purchase by the student body.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of facility; to include maintaining a high score from department of health.
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.
  • Ensure that each guest receives outstanding guest services by providing a guest friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every guest, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of guest services.
  • Ensure appropriate merchandise stock levels, merchandise adjacencies and presentations, and ensure supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Participate in Career Development Services System (COSS) by creating positive peer leadership and role modeling techniques through activities on and off center.
  • Have a basic understanding of the MYPACE program and its role in a student's transition plan.
  • Provide support as needed with an individual student's MYPACE plan follow through and activities.
  • Assist with MYPACE activities/lessons as needed and appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  • It is expected the incumbent will work overtime when directed to do so.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.

 Requirements:

  • Hours may include nights/weekends
  • Associate of Arts degree preferred or one year recreation experience or verified voluntary experience. Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required.
  • Commercial driver's license preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
