Position Summary:
Reports to the warden. Directly supervises the count room coordinator and clerk II. Responsible for the
management of classification in compliance with MTC and customer directives.

Essential Functions:
1. Plan, coordinate and supervise the administrative and programmatic activities of the department.
2. Coordinate with department heads and administrative staff on case management and classification
issues.
3. Maintain quality control for all documentation and official correspondence prepared by classification
staff that requires the signature and approval by the warden.
4. Assign housing assignments at the facility level.
5. Provide technical assistance and serve as a resource for the facility, Otero County and ICE on detainee
classification issues.
6. Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance and recommend and implement department and
personnel changes as approved by the warden and coordinated with the human resource manager
prior to implementation.
7. Assist the warden in the preparation of the departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures.
8. Assist in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting
classification.
9. Develop and implement an effective classification system.
10. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and
intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding
social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
11. Maintain accountability of detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as
determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social services, or human services, and three (3) years related
experience required, one (1) of which must be in a supervisory capacity. Directly related experience may be
considered in lieu of formal education requirements if approved by management. Must successfully complete
pre-service training. Valid driver's license in the state of New Mexico or Texas with an acceptable driving
record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:
Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and maintain appropriate facility clearance.
