Job responsibilities: A clerk is responsible for clerical tasks, systems and procedures related to Substance Abuse Felony Punishment facility (SAFPF)/In-Prison Therapeutic Community (IPTC) programs in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.
Essential functions:
Perform varied clerical duties for the programs department including data entry, filing, and preparing reports.
Maintain records and files in hard copy and electronic form; maintain confidentiality of all records and correspondence.
Assist programs staff in obtaining, preparing and/or copying materials.
Perform duties including typing correspondence, form letters, accountability forms, status reports and input/output forms in a timely manner.
Maintain files on department/records, offender records, forms and correspondence sent, received and/or requiring further action.
Type and proofread records, memos, reports, and forms; copy needed information from one record to another as required. Route accordingly.
Log and distribute incoming documents and mail, prepare outgoing mail, answer telephone and convey messages.
Operate office equipment including computers, copiers and printers.
Coordinate or participate in transition meetings.
Promote the development and positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
Maintain accountability of staff, offenders and property. Adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Position requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year full-time, wage-earning clerical or secretarial experience to include computer operations and Excel. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software programs preferred.
A valid driver license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
