Position Summary:

Reports to the maintenance supervisor. Directly supervises maintenance technicians and maintenance shop offender work crews at all assigned facilities. Responsible for duties involving general maintenance of assigned facility grounds and repairs of equipment and buildings, assisting with technical trades such as plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Essential Functions:

1. Perform maintenance and repair of structures, electrical systems, heating, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning and drainage systems.
2. Recommend contracted assistance when on-facility repair is not possible; assists with sourcing on cost effective means for contracted repairs as needed.
3. Perform minor construction and repair of structural woodwork.
4. Prepare for finishing, painting, or other surface materials as directed. 
5. Follow all safety regulations to include the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for self as well as offenders assigned to the maintenance department.
6. Maintain accountability of staff, offenders and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education/Experience requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
• Six (6) years full-time, wage-earning experience in plant or institutional maintenance or general construction. 
• ---OR----
• Associate degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of education (USDE) in a related maintenance or construction technology field. Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by TDCJ.
