Detention Officer (on call)

Location: 1800 Industrial Drive, Raymondville, Texas 78580

Work schedule: As needed to include weekends, hours not to exceed 25 per week

Job responsibilities: Detention Officers are responsible for the custody and security of detainees assigned to the facility.

Essential functions:

1. Search for contraband and provide security. 
2. Count, feed and supervise detainees in housing, work, and other areas. 
3. Provide custody and security of detainees including observation of detainees. 
4. Perform security of various assigned areas. 
5. Perform specific security functions including ‘pat’ and ‘strip’ searches, by squatting and bending to perform such functions. Also required to climb ladders or stairs in search of contraband.
6. Transfer and transport detainees by walking or riding in vehicles. Restrain and secure assaultive detainees, as needed. 
7. Must be able to work rotating shifts and all posts assignments. 
8. Maintain the secure custody and security of detainees including observation of detainees, which includes long periods of standing and sitting. 
9. Required to make periodic rounds of assigned area which may include long periods of walking and standing.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior correctional experience is preferred but not required.
• A valid driver license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
